Weight loss is really easy if you just took a step back and became more aware of your diet and your life style. Very often we are so tired at the end of the day we inadvertently reach out for calorie-laden drinks and foods without thinking. If you just kept track of everything you put into your mouth for just one day, it is sure to be a real eye-opener.

Here then are 7 sensible diet tips that will help you lose weight and keep it off for a longer time:

1. Stop guzzling those sugary sodas and drink plenty of water instead. Sodas are often the biggest culprit. Just this one step will help you lose at least 1 ½ lbs a month.

2. Make it a point not to stock any fatty or calorie-rich foods in the house. Instead have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables for those snacky moments.

3. Watch those portions. You do not have to fill your plate. If you just cannot help yourself, maybe you like to try using smaller sized plates instead.

4. Eat slowly. Studies show that it takes the brain about 20 minutes to acknowledge the moment of satiety. So in effect we tend to eat well after we are already full without even realizing. Eating slowly helps you stop when you have to instead of stuffing your self with food.

5. Try not to skip any meals. If you do, you are likely to get way too hungry and will be unable to control yourself at the next meal.

6. Replace white bread with whole-wheat and multi-grain breads for maximum nutrition

7. Plan your meals for the week. Go shopping over the weekend and only buy those items that are on your list. Before setting out say to yourself I will not buy anything thats not on my list. Take it one week at a time and very soon, these little changes will become lifetime habits and you will never again find yourself fighting a losing battle with weight.
